The ICBIE is proud to be an independent association, free to develop its innovative program to assist the local community in Salvador. This independence is our greatest asset, but it also deprives us of any financial aid from governments or large organizations, because that could lead to unwanted compromises. We depend upon our own meager resources to operate the Institute, and only through the generosity of our supporters (who sometimes wish to remain anonymous) can we expand our operations.
In order to facilitate spontaneous contributions, we have installed a user-friendly program called Click and Pledge for secure online donations. We appeal to you to contribute even a small amount: you can be sure that your money will be used to finance our noble initiatives.
Donors provide resources for initiatives both big and small. Here are some examples of how your money can help:

Students from impoverished families receive free tuition at the ICBIE, but often this is not enough, as they need money for bus fares to come to class. $5 could pay a student’s fares for a week.
$10 could sustain the cost of photocopies for a week of ICBIE lessons.
$25 could pay for a textbook that can be used again and again for an ICBIE course.
$50 pays for a toner cartridge for our photocopy machine.
$150 could be earmarked to pay a local qualified instructor to teach an ICBIE computer course for a month.
Pianoforte for the Favela campaign: we are raising money to purchase a concert grand piano, as we have many superb musicians who have offered to give free concerts and courses at the ICBIE, if only we had a proper instrument.
ICBIE Theater Project: we are initiating a fund-raising campaign to transform the large area behind the Institute by building a theater, to offer the community a precious cultural resource and to give artists from Brazil, Europe and the Americas a venue for performances. In our neighborhood, consisting of favelas and degraded areas, where more than 160,000 poor people live, there is no theater, community center, or cinema.
